T1D vs. Insurance Companies
T1D vs. Insurance Companies. If you watch GOT (confession: I have just come off of a season 1-4 binge...) I'm basically Lord Tyrion & insurance companies are "The Mountain." Unfortunately, this life or death battle is a constant reality when living with a chronic disease, & gaining access to adequate medical coverage is a fight that actually matters (sorry, Mayweather).
I recently came back from a trip to the pharmacy with a $685 receipt. For test strips alone. Talk about *stripper shock.* So I decided to take matters into my own hands & try out Livongo. The company charges a reasonable monthly flat fee which includes unlimited (yes, unlimited🤗) test strips, meter & lancets. It doesn't cover insulin, but if you are constantly running out of test strips or faced with ridiculous prescription costs, this is a great option. Here's the catch: I literally have zero excuses now about not changing my lancet.
PS. Does anyone else have a bizarre habit of shaking their test strip bottle? Asking for a friend...
