It's yo' birthday
Today is my first birthday with diabetes. Not to brag or anything, but I'm really killing it with the pancreas this year 👊🏼
Today was also my first taste of dessert as a diabetic. Pre-diabetes, my lifestyle blurred the lines between health nut & ice cream aficionado. After I was diagnosed, I started to fear desserts, like even more than public speaking & spiders which is really a big deal. So I vowed that on my birthday, I'd have just one bite (everyone knows the rules). I divided these cupcakes meticulously, & finally conquered them- might I add rather voraciously. Funny enough, my sugars didn't spike due to careful meal planning, but even if they had I would do it all over again.
💁🏻 🍰 Pro-tip: Try doing the thing that scares you most & you might be pleasantly surprised. Often times, the fear of what "might happen" is far worse than the actual outcome. It's important to live a life with diabetes, but not controlled by it- because a balanced life is a cupcake in one hand & your insulin pen in the other ⚖️... especially when it's your birthday.
