Hi, I'm Heather

I'll keep you updated on the latest in type 1 diabetes management... mostly through my own trials and errors :)

An apple a day...

An apple a day...

I think I'll make a crisp out of you 😍...

There's nothing that makes me feel more seasonal than an impromptu visit to the farmers market, which is easy when it's held smack in the middle of the city. Apples (okay & spice & everything nice too) are in full bloom right now & happen to be one of my favorite fruits. They are rich in soluble fiber which helps to keep you full & slow down glucose metabolism. Interestingly, apples also contain plenty of polyphenols, plant compounds that protect against a variety of chronic diseases. One of these polyphenols, called "quercetin," has been studied for its beneficial effects on glucose metabolism. Now this won't keep your endo away for good, but there is no denying apples are incredibly healthy for you. I just wish the fruit stand wasn't situated right next to the homemade brownies... haaaalp.
